History is a great domain to pursue and gradually it is becoming quite a popular subject. A degree in history .I am listing below a few career options you can look forward to after you complete your graduation/masters in history.

1) Government organization: A number of people choose History as a subject at the graduation level in order to have an edge in the Public Service Commission examinations. Graduation with honours in History paves your way to different government jobs such as MPSC, UPSC or IBPS/Bank PO, etc. after clearing their respective examinations.

 

2) Teacher/ Lectureship: If this subject interest and you would like to share your knowledge with others, then after completing your graduation you can pursue a B.Ed. which will make you eligible to teach students in school. If you wish to teach at the university level, you will have to complete your Master’s and then clear

 

3) Work in the Film Industry: There is a lot of demand in production houses for people who have a background in History who can do research for costumes, jewellery, background set, etc. One can join production house as a research analyst after completing your gradation in history honours. 4) Archaeology: The work of an archaeologist can be research-based or field-related. It involves excavation, but that is only one aspect of archaeology. You are free to specialize in particular subjects of study. For example, you may be an expert on coins called a numismatist, or an epigraphist who deciphers inscriptions. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) employs archaeologists and is entrusted with the maintenance of 3,600 monuments, archaeological departments of various state governments, heritage institutions, museums and other research institutions.

 

5) Museum curator: Museum curators specialize in natural history, metals, terracotta, textiles, paintings and other related subjects. This field requires an artistic and aesthetic mind along with administrative skills. It also involves maintaining records of each item, for example, where it was found or obtained, it’s estimated age, conservation treatment and such details.

 

6) Archivist: Archivists specialize in preserving, repairing parchment and paper manuscripts, and microfilming documents. They find work in museums, libraries, National Archives of India and various state archives.

 

7) Historians: Historians’ job is to study and research history and communicate it through written or published works. A prerequisite for becoming a historian is a bachelor’s degree in history followed by a master’s in a specific field such as political history, military history, etc. History experts are in huge demand in movie houses who can do research work for costumes, jewellery, film sets. These experts work closely with both directors and cinematographers. History experts can also go for production houses as research analysts.
